We all love our pets. Should we include pets at weddings? For the record, I have a dog; Mila, and 5 snails; Fiora, Octavia, Stella, Evangeline, and Fred whom I adore. However, we have decided to not have our pets involved directly in our wedding day. Others, though, want their pets to be included in one of the biggest days of their lives! Some couples have even met through their pets or adopted pets while they were dating. Lots of couples are choosing to include their pets in their weddings, but this can be a lot of work. Here are some manageable ways to include your pet in your wedding. I’ve also included an adorable poem written from the perspective of a dog included in a wedding.

Having Your Pet In Your Ceremony
The most obvious way to include your pet in your wedding is to have your pet participate in the ceremony itself. Here are a few ideas of things your pet could do. If you decide to include your pet in the ceremony, make sure they are fully covered for flea and tick control – especially if you have an outdoor wedding! Get this 100% natural flea and tick control spray at Paleo Pets.
Have Your Pet Walk You Down The Aisle
Your pet is a beloved family member and should be treated as such. Have your pet on a leash (or just by your side if they’re well-behaved) as you’re walking down the aisle.
Have Your Pet Be The Flower Girl Or Ring Bearer
Make a flower necklace, have them carry a basket of flowers, or give them the responsibility of the wedding rings. You’ll love the pictures of your special pet walking down the aisle with a special job! Check out this poem written by the perspective of a dog given the important job of ring bearer:
I’ve been asked to carry the rings in my owner’s wedding,
I hope it will be fun and not something to be dreading.
I get to dress up and will be wearing a tux,
I wonder if it’s fancy and cost big bucks.
The wedding will be outside under the hot sun.
Please have plenty of water and places to run.
The wedding day is here and people are all around,
I am worried I may forget or get spooked by a sound.
They said their vows and now it’s my turn,
The rings are on my collar and I have no concern.
The wedding was a success and such a joy,
Now I can relax and play with my toy.

Have Your Pet By Your Side As You Say Your Vows
Even if your pet doesn’t walk down the aisle with you, you could still choose to have them sitting faithfully by your side as you say your vows to your forever partner!

Other Ways To Include Your Pet In Your Wedding
Have Your Pet Hang Out While You’re Getting Ready
If your pet isn’t allowed at the ceremony, have them with you as you get ready! They might calm down your butterflies as well.
Include Your Pet In Some Formal Photos
If you have a sitter, have them bring your pet for a few photos, or include your pet in your engagement photos. Either way, you’ll love having these photos! Make sure your pet’s teeth are sparkling white and beautiful for photos with this natural toothpowder for dogs.
Include Some Decoration Details Featuring Your Pet
Consider cocktail napkins, table numbers, place settings, and any other decorations you have!
Have A Signature Drink Inspired By Your Pet
I am definitely doing this at my wedding! We’ll call it “The Mila” and it’ll be a sweet, crazy cocktail, just like her!

Have Your Pet’s Face As A Photo Booth Prop
Have your guests (find my post here on who to invite to your wedding) pose with your pet all night with a cardboard cutout of them. Get a hilarious custom pet portrait from Iconic Paw – you will not regret getting this for your wedding or your house!
Feature Your Pet On Your Stationary
It might not be your pet exactly, but there’s tons of generic pet stationary out there that you can use for Save the Dates, invitations, thank you cards, and more! Tavern Creative has some really lovely Save the Dates, invitations, and thank you cards.
Make A Donation As A Wedding Favor To An Animal Shelter
Instead of spending lots of money on wedding favors (find some cute ones here), make a donation to an animal shelter (or another charity of your choice) and give your wedding guests a small card thanking them for their favor “donation.” You’ll feel good and do good! You could also include donations on your registry! Put all your registries together easily at My Registry.

Include Your Pet In Your Wedding Cake
This could be a wedding cake topper, or even incorporated into the cake itself if your cake baker is willing to! It’ll be a cute detail that you and your guests will appreciate. Make sure to have your photographer take photos of this!
Have The Groomsmen Wear Pet Cufflinks, Pocket Squares, Or Socks
It’s all in the details. Lots of Etsy sellers make unique, custom cufflinks that you can have personalized to look like your pet. Also, the groomsmen could get small pocket squares with your pet’s silhouette on it! Check out Sockologie for pet socks of almost every breed for the groomsmen to wear!

Ultimately, you and your partner need to decide if and how to include your pet in your wedding. Decide if you want your pet at the actual wedding, or have details that remind you and your guests of your pet. I’m really thinking about getting the groomsmen snail cufflinks – I just think that would be so cute and unique! What is your opinion on pets at weddings? I love this idea! My dog and cat are a bit too crazy to include but the idea of naming a cocktail after them is so cute! Definitely bringing this up to our bartender!
I really want one day to have my furry friend with me on my wedding day. My dog is a part of my life and not you know, not only I need to accept our new family member 😀
