After the stress of wedding planning, you’ll want to spend some quality time with your spouse to relax or do some fun activities just the two of you! Some couples just want to lounge on a beach all day or go to a luxurious spa and others are looking for a little more adventure. You and your spouse may prefer warm or cold honeymoon destinations. You might want to go right after your wedding or wait until a better time. However, after spending lots of money on a wedding, (see my money saving tips here) you might not want to spend a ton of money on a honeymoon. I’ve created a helpful list of 9 tips for saving money on your honeymoon. Then I’ve asked couples and travel bloggers what the most affordable honeymoon destinations in the U.S. are. Here are their suggestions! I’ve also included a FREE honeymoon planning checklist to help you plan your perfect honeymoon to enjoy with your new spouse! Plan Off Season
While it might not be the best temperature at your destination on the off season, there will still be fun things to do. Plus the important part of your honeymoon is spending time with your new spouse!
Fly on an Off-Peak Day of the Week
Flight tickets tend to be cheaper on Monday or Tuesday as opposed to Friday or Saturday. Make sure to check which days to your destination are cheapest.
Get an Airbnb or Hotel with a Kitchen to Make Your Own Meals
Instead of going out for all your meals, consider booking an Airbnb or a hotel with a kitchen so you can cook some of your own meals. Even if you just eat breakfast in your room, you’ll save lots of money on food!

Book Activities Before You Go
Many places upcharge you if you purchase on the day you are doing the activity. Try to book ahead for a discount!
Check Out Free Admission Days
Some places have certain days of the week or year that they offer free admission – plan around those days!
Use Public Transportation
Instead of renting a car at your destination (or driving there), consider walking or taking the bus or whatever other kinds of public transportation your destination offers.

Buy drinks to make (instead of buying individual drinks at the bar)
Check out the grocery or liquor store when you first arrive and buy some alcohol and drinks. You won’t be constantly paying for expensive cocktails at the bar! Check out these syrups that can be used as mixers.

Ask Locals Where to Eat and What to do
The locals will know which places are delicious and cheap. Stay away from overpriced touristy restaurants.
Take Photos and Make a Scrapbook Instead of Buying Souvenirs
You’ll love looking back on your honeymoon pictures instead of buying some cheap souvenirs.

Warm Honeymoon Destinations
If you and your spouse are the type to lay on the beach, snorkel, and swim in the pool, then these warm honeymoon destinations are the choices for you!
Key West, Florida
Picture romantic sunsets and beautiful beaches and head to Key West Florida! They have a whole website dedicated to Key West where you can find accommodations, activities, restaurants, and more!

Oahu, Hawaii
Lots of couples recommended Oahu when I asked for affordable honeymoon destinations in the US and it’s no wonder! You can explore the city and the beach all in one day! Check out this website to see what Oahu has to offer.

Puerto Rico
If you’re looking for an island getaway for your honeymoon, make sure to check out Puerto Rico!

Cold Honeymoon Destinations
If you’re not into the hot beach life, you might prefer a cold(er) wedding destination!
Alaska
I have always wanted to go to Alaska. I’ve heard it is beautiful! I know there are also cruises that go to Alaska. Check out Alaska’s tourist website for more information.

All Seasons
These are honeymoon destinations that would be a good place to visit whether it’s warm or cold. They have both indoor and outdoor activities.
Colonial Williamsburg
If you or your spouse are interested in history, Williamsburg would be a great honeymoon destination. There are lots of different important historic sites to visit and you can take guided tours and visit historic taverns.

Niagara Falls
I won’t lie, Niagara Falls will be COLD in the winter. Especially near the falls! However, the falls are beautiful during any season and there are lots of other local activities to do.

Northern Oregon Coast
Oregon probably isn’t the first place you think of when planning a honeymoon to the coast, but it is so scenic, you will be sure to enjoy it! There are beaches, hiking, horseback rides, and so much more! This would be a perfect honeymoon destination for the active couple!
Hood River, Oregon
Another potential honeymoon destination in Oregon is Hood River. Hood River features quite a few wineries and tasting rooms, a waterfall, and a gorge. This would be a perfect place if you can only take a short honeymoon!

Mendocino, California
Filled with Redwood trees, Mendocino California is a romantic place to getaway with your new spouse! Lots of travel bloggers recommend staying at the eco-friendly Brewery Gulch Inn.

Cambria, California
Another scenic location in California, Cambria is on the central coast and is a cute seaside town. As with other destinations in California, this is lots of nature to take in and lots of wineries to visit!

Any of the National Parks
My personal affordable honeymoon destinations in the U.S. that I would recommend would be any of the National Parks. I have never been disappointed by a national park and the activities that they offer. If you’re a nature-y couple, then camping or staying at a cabin in a national park would be perfect!
Mini-Moon
A mini-moon is a honeymoon that is short and is within driving distance (either from your wedding location or where you live). If you only have a weekend or you are looking to save money, especially after paying for a wedding, a mini moon might be perfect for you and your new spouse!

Yay I’m so glad!
What lovely destinations! We had a destination wedding so extended our stay after the wedding and had a mini-moon and then had a proper honeymoon 6 months later, at least there was still something to look forward to…
Oahu is the perfect honeymoon location! I love it so much!
Very helpful tips to save money on your honeymoon and such beautiful destinations. My husband wanted to go to Alaska for our honeymoon, but we ended up going to Wyoming instead (my pick). Both beautiful destinations! Thank for sharing!
